Counselor II provides individual, family and group case management for runaway, homeless and other high risk youth; responsible for screening and placing youth in crisis home; prepares detailed documentation of client sessions and activities; facilitates weekly 7-Challenges and ART groups; may be scheduled evenings and weekends; attends mandatory weekly program meetings. Performs crisis interventions with runaway, homeless, high-risk youth and their families. Assesses and places appropriate youth in crisis resolution home. Provides short-term counseling and family therapy for youth in placement. Provides long-term individual and family therapy for youth in aftercare. Advocates for youth and family with social services agencies, probation officers, and juvenile justice system. Facilitates weekly 7 challenges group sessions. Prepares documentation of client activities and is responsible for completing monthly stats and quarterly reports. Assists in recruiting, screening, interviewing and recommending hiring of staff appropriate to unit function. Providing some in-service training to staff. Included is public relations and public speaking as a representative of unit and agency. Assists the Program Officer in developing program direction for unit and agency. Participates as a member of the unit staff and shares in the planning, implementation and evaluation of Unit objectives. Demonstrated problem solving skills, clinical skills and must be able to work effectively in varied situations.

Minimum qualifications: Demonstrated problem solving skills, clinical skills varied situations. Must have the ability to work with diverse backgrounds. Possess knowledge of counseling techniques and treatment skills and work supportively with other treatment staff. Must have two years’ experience working with youth in the counseling; psychology or social work field. Ability to transport youth. A valid California driver’s license and insurance are required. Two years counseling experience. The equivalent combination of education, related experience and/or personal recovery may be substituted for the above.

Starting pay $3,308 – $3,646 a month D.O.E. Additional 5% if Bilingual (E/S). Generous benefits package including dental and vision coverage. AA/EOE.
