Monterey, CA – June 3, 2022– Community Human was recently selected as 2022 California Nonprofit of the Year by Senator John Laird for District 17. Community Human Services is one of more than one hundred nonprofits that will be honored by their state senators and assembly members for their outstanding contributions to the communities they serve this year at a luncheon on June 8th at the State Capitol.

Community Human Services is a 501c(3) nonprofit Joint Powers agency dedicated to providing high quality mental health, substance abuse and homeless services to Monterey County residents to help them reach their full potential. Virtually all the work done by CHS addresses underlying conditions or root causes of personal, family and community problems, whether it is addiction, domestic violence, mental illness, emotional health, homelessness, child abuse, or any number of problems that people have trouble solving on their own.

“The staff and volunteers at Community Human Services transform the lives of Monterey County residents every day, and we are deeply humbled to be recognized by Senator Laird and the state legislators,” said Robin McCrae, CEO of Community Human Services.

“Nonprofit organizations play such a critical role in our communities, and the last two years of the pandemic have only served to highlight that,” noted Jan Masaoka, CEO of the California Association of Nonprofits (CalNonprofits), which serves as a partner for this awards program. “California Nonprofit of the Year gives elected officials the opportunity to shine a light on the important work nonprofits are doing in their districts and for everyone to appreciate the collective impact of nonprofits in our communities.”
