Free Parent Education and Support Now Available by Zoom

Families with young children in Monterey County can now take advantage of a free parenting education and support program provided by Community Human Services via Zoom video conference meetings. The Nurturing Parenting Program (NPP) offers tools and strategies to help parents create a positive home environment for their children and information and referral to community resources.

In observance of the statewide shelter in place order, CHS has modified its delivery of programs and services to continue to remotely support clients in need. This resource is now accessible to Monterey County parents through video chat with CHS parent educators during the order.

NPP Curriculum is offered via 12 week sessions. English classes will be held weekly from 5:30pm – 6:30pm beginning Tuesday, May 12th. Spanish classes will be facilitated every Wednesday from 5:30 – 6:30pm beginning May 13th.

The Nurturing Parenting Program is an evidence-based program that is designed for the treatment and prevention of child abuse and neglect. The program provides lessons to foster positive parenting skills with nurturing behaviors. Community Human Services offers this 12-week curriculum to nearly 500 parents a year at various sites throughout Monterey County. These same skills and behaviors will now be shared via telephone.

For more than 50 years, Community Human Services has been making a positive impact on the community through prevention, intervention and treatment services for substance abuse, mental health and homelessness. Its parenting education program receives funding from Monterey County Behavioral Health and Monterey County Social Services and is free to Monterey County residents.
