Shuman HeartHouse Shelter
Program Description
Shuman HeartHouse provides shelter, meals, and comprehensive wrap-around services for homeless women and families with children. Services include case management, housing navigation, employment assistance, and referrals to medical, mental health, and substance abuse services.
Shuman HeartHouse is a low-barrier Housing First emergency homeless shelter for single women and families with children. Length of stay is for 90 days, and may be extended to up to 6 months total. Amenities include meals, full baths, laundry, mail service, computers, and internet access. Guests are assigned a room and a secure locker for their stay and may leave their belongings there. Children-specific activities include tutoring and homework help, as well as arts and crafts, games, books, movies, TV shows, story time, outdoor play area, etc.
Case managers work with guests to set and achieve their personal goals for housing, income, employment, education, and other areas that support a successful exit from homelessness. Housing navigation, employment assistance, life skills education, referral to ancillary services, and other assistance is available.
How to Get Started
Eligible individuals must be homeless single women or families with children, able to participate in and benefit from the program.
